BARBARA C. GUTIN MAKES $6 MILLION GIFT TO KEEPING THE PROMISE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

Gift Will Name New Centre for Proton Therapy at Boca Raton Regional Hospital

BOCA RATON, FL – Long-standing Boca Raton Regional Hospital philanthropist Barbara C. Gutin has made a $6 million gift to the Keeping the Promise capital campaign. The gift will be recognized with the naming of the new Center for Proton Therapy at the Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute, as well as naming an adjacent Staff and Patient Courtyard Garden.

“Throughout the Keeping the Promise campaign, we have been honored by the repeat commitments of donors who are Boca Raton Regional Hospital family,” said Lincoln Mendez, North Region Executive, Baptist Health and CEO, Boca Raton Regional Hospital. “This one is particularly special to us. One of our most generous donors, Barbara Gutin, and her late husband, Irving, have made extraordinary gifts to support so many of our enhancements. They understand the value of the next generation of healthcare, and what it can mean to so many. The Center for Proton Therapy is emblematic of a new, elevated sophistication in healthcare, and we are proud to develop it here, and equally proud to have donors such as Mrs. Gutin support it so vigorously.”

Barbara Gutin is the widow of Irving Gutin, a former executive at Tyco International in Boca Raton, Florida. The couple have been major supporters of Boca Raton Regional Hospital for years, with generous seven-figure gifts to the robotic surgery program established in their names along with the Barbara C. Gutin Center for Pelvic Health at the Women’s Institute. More recently, Barbara funds women's health programs at the Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute, including the highly popular Barbara C. Gutin Pre- and Post-Partum Program for expectant mothers and their partners before and after childbirth.

“I have the utmost confidence in the plans for the future established by the Board and Administration,” said Mrs. Gutin. “This is the heart of healthcare for this area, for our community, for our family and friends. The next generation of healthcare is at our doorstep and I’m proud to play a role in bringing it to Boca Raton.”

The Barbara C. Gutin Center for Proton Therapy will feature the most advanced form of radiation therapy using high-energy protons to treat tumors. Because protons completely stop inside the tumor, the specific radiation dose is delivered solely to the tumor without injuring surrounding healthy tissue. The result is a less invasive procedure with better outcomes.

The Keeping the Promise Campaign is the largest fund-raising initiative in Boca Regional’s history and is supporting more than $1 billion in capital investments. The campus redevelopment plans include the Gloria Drummond Patient Tower and a Critical Care Tower where patients will be welcomed in the inviting new Louis B. and Anne W. Green Lobby with plans for retail, dining, meeting space, a sanctuary, outdoor courtyards and other conveniences for visitors. The project features all private patient rooms exceeding the latest safety standards for patient care. In the current hospital building, all existing rooms will be converted to private in a comprehensive renovation of all patient units including maternity, oncology, and orthopedics. An expansion of the Marcus Neuroscience Institute is now completed with an emphasis on stroke, central nervous system tumors, spine, and epilepsy. The 972-car Schmidt Family Parking Facility is open and will be connected to the Marcus Neuroscience Institute. And the new Toby and Leon Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion, opening later this fall, is home to our Orthopedic Institute with an outpatient surgery center, physician specialty offices and is adjacent to the Eleanor Baldwin Parking Facility.

“Mrs. Gutin has helped our Keeping the Promise campaign reach unprecedented levels beyond the $270 million raised,” said Stan Barry, Foundation Chairman Emeritus and co-chair of the Keeping the Promise capital campaign. “We would not be at the forefront of all these next-level healthcare innovations without the Gutins. We are eternally indebted to both of them.”
